Building businesses and expanding the impact of ideas

I’m Elizabeth Bramson, CEO & Publisher of MIT Technology Review. I lead businesses that turn expertise and trusted information into products, relationships, and revenue.

I enjoy figuring out what an organization could become, and building the team, strategy, and commercial foundations to get it there. My career has spanned media, research, consulting, and executive networks, with a consistent focus on making valuable ideas useful to more people.

Transforming MIT Technology Review

Since joining as COO in 2015 and becoming CEO in 2017, I have built and led an exceptional leadership team that has transformed MIT Technology Review into a global, digital-first media company.

Working closely with editorial leadership, we have redefined the mission, redesigned the product portfolio, and expanded the reach and influence of our journalism. Alongside that work, we have grown annual revenue to 2.5x its 2017 level, built a sponsored-content business that generates three-quarters of advertising revenue, and developed a highly profitable international business.

I lead approximately 70 people across a business spanning subscriptions, advertising, events, partnerships, and licensing. What connects those activities is a shared ambition: to help people understand technology and its consequences through rigorous, independent journalism.

A career connecting expertise and opportunity

Before MIT Technology Review, I held senior leadership roles at The Economist Group in London, overseeing research, analysis, data, and executive membership businesses. As Global Managing Director of The Economist Corporate Network, I held full P&L responsibility across ten markets in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.

Earlier, I led international research teams and advised technology companies navigating deregulation, emerging technologies, and new markets. That experience still shapes how I work: ask good questions, understand what customers need, and build something worth their time and investment.

How I lead

I care about clarity of purpose, commercial discipline, and giving talented people the conditions to do their best work. I enjoy bringing different perspectives together, making difficult decisions, and helping teams take shared responsibility for results.

I hold an Executive MBA from London Business School, earned while working full time (that was a lot), an MSc from the London School of Economics, and a BA from Swarthmore College.

I also have two children making their own way in the world, bringing good sense and kindness to it, and reminding me what matters most.
